The number of unemployed people registered with public employment services in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 30 April 2020 was 419 582. As compared to a month earlier, this number was higher by 21 312 persons or 5.35%. Out of the total number of job seekers, 240 079 or 57.22% were women. In comparison to the same period of the year earlier, unemployment in BiH was higher by 5 756 persons or 1.39%.

Unemployment increased in the Federation of BiH by 19 026 persons (6.2%), in Republika Srpska by 2 150 persons (2.54%) and in the Brčko District of BiH by 136 persons (2.04%).

Job seekers by qualification levels, situation as of 30 April 2020:

113 198 unskilled workers or 26.98%, of whom 66 472 (27.69%) women;

7 178 semi-skilled workers – lower educational background or 1.71%, of whom 3 632 (1.51%) women;

133 001 skilled workers or 31.7%, of whom 62 409 (26.0%) women;

1 585 highly skilled workers or 0.38%, of whom 277 (0.12%) women;

121 850 with secondary education or 29.04%, of whom 77 793 (32.4%) women;

6 932 with two-year post-secondary education or 1.65%, of whom 4 449 (1.85%) women;

35 838 with university degree or 8.5%, of whom 25 047 (10.43%) women.

A total of 5 837 people were deregistered from public employment services, of whom 2 434 were women. Out of this number, there were 3 588 flows into employment, of which 1 459 were women. 

At the same time employment terminated for 21 649 people, of whom 12 227 were women.  In the same period, employers reported 715 vacancies. 

According to BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in employment in BiH in March 2020 stood at 830 421, of whom 359 846 were women.  In comparison to February 2020, the number of people in employment fell by 0.2% and the number of employed women fell by 0.3%.

Registered unemployment rate for March 2020 was 32.4% which is a drop of 0.2 percentage point in comparison to February 2020.
