Labour market overview, situation as of 30 April 2023

The number of unemployed people registered with public employment services in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 30 April 2023 was 349 410. As compared to a month earlier, this number was lower by 3 480 persons or 0.99%. Out of the total number of job seekers, 203 563 or 58.26% were women. In comparison to the same period of the year earlier, unemployment in BiH was lower by 16 456 persons or 4.5%.
Unemployment decreased in Federation of BiH by 2 956 persons (1.05%), in Republika Srpska by 1 191 persons (1.9%) but increase in the Brčko District of BiH by 667 persons (8.25%).
Job seekers by qualification levels, situation as of 30 April 2023:
99 945 unskilled workers or 28.60%, of whom 59 367 (29.16%) women;
5 431 semi-skilled workers – lower educational background or 1.55%, of whom 2 798 (1.37%) women;
110 011 skilled workers or 31.48%, of whom 52 886 (25.98%) women;
969 highly skilled workers or 0.28%, of whom 193 (0.09%) women;
98 770 with secondary education or 28.27%, of whom 65 305 (31.59%) women;
5 660 with two-year post-secondary education or 1.62%, of whom 3 734 (1.83%) women;
28 624 with university degree or 8.19%, of whom 20 280 (9.96%) women.
A total of 19 564 people were deregistered from public employment services in April, of whom 9 187 were women. Out of this number, there were 9 789 flows into employment, of which 4 988 were women.
At the same time employment terminated for 6 708 people, of whom 3 340 were women. In the same period, employers reported 3 101 vacancies.
According to BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in employment in BiH in March 2022 stood at 852 402, of whom 384 440 were women. In comparison to February 2023, the number of people in employment was increased by 0.1% and the number of employed women increased by 0.3%.
Registered unemployment rate for March 2023 was 29.3% and was 0.1 percentage point lower than in February 2023.
