The number of unemployed people registered with public employment services in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 30 September 2023 was 346 848. As compared to a month earlier, this number was lower by 3 468 persons or 0.99%. Out of the total number of job seekers, 202 617 or 58.42% were women. In comparison to the same period of the year earlier, unemployment in BiH was lower by 9 683 persons or 2.72%.

Unemployment decreased in Federation of BiH by 3 231 persons (1.17%), in Republika Srpska by 297 persons (0.49%) but increased in the Brčko District of BiH by 60 persons (0.46%).

Job seekers by qualification levels, situation as of 30 September 2023:

100 484 unskilled workers or 28.97%, of whom 59 905 (29.57%) women;

5 284 semi-skilled workers – lower educational background or 1.52%, of whom 2 745 (1.35%) women;

108 817 skilled workers or 31.37%, of whom 52 344 (25.83%) women;

912 highly skilled workers or 0.26%, of whom 192 (0.09%) women;

98 046 with secondary education or 28.27%, of whom 63 977 (31.58%) women;

5 377 with two-year post-secondary education or 1.55%, of whom 3 558 (1.76%) women;

27 928 with university degree or 8.05%, of whom 19 896 (9.82%) women.

A total of 23 082 people were deregistered from public employment services in September, of whom 12 528 were women. Out of this number, there were 11 356 flows into employment, of which 6 996 were women. 

At the same time employment terminated for 10 321 people, of whom 5 436 were women.  In the same period, employers reported 5 065 vacancies. 

According to BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in employment in BiH in August 2023 stood at 843 876, of whom 378 462 were women.  In comparison to July 2023, the number of people in employment was decreased by 0.5% and the number of employed women decreased by 0.7%.

Registered unemployment rate for August 2023 was 29.3% and was 0.1 percentage point higher than in July 2023.
