Labour market overview, situation as of 31 July 2023

The number of unemployed people registered with public employment services in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 31 July 2023 was 350 461. As compared to a month earlier, this number was higher by 3 827 persons or 1.10%. Out of the total number of job seekers, 205 505 or 58.64% were women. In comparison to the same period of the year earlier, unemployment in BiH was lower by 11 313 persons or 3.13%.
Unemployment increased in Federation of BiH by 2 236 persons (0.81%), in Republika Srpska by 76 persons (0.13%) and in the Brčko District of BiH by 1 515 persons (13.18%).
Job seekers by qualification levels, situation as of 31 July 2023:
100 771 unskilled workers or 28.75%, of whom 60 079 (29.23%) women;
5 369 semi-skilled workers – lower educational background or 1.53%, of whom 2 782 (1.35%) women;
109 190 skilled workers or 31.16%, of whom 52 595 (25.59%) women;
931 highly skilled workers or 0.27%, of whom 194 (0.09%) women;
98 268 with secondary education or 28.04%, of whom 64 183 (31.23%) women;
5 757 with two-year post-secondary education or 1.64%, of whom 3 861 (1.88%) women;
30 175 with university degree or 8.61%, of whom 21 811 (10.61%) women.
A total of 18 428 people were deregistered from public employment services in July, of whom 8 548 were women. Out of this number, there were 7 353 flows into employment, of which 3 690 were women.
At the same time employment terminated for 11 689 people, of whom 6 588 were women. In the same period, employers reported 2 040 vacancies.
According to BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in employment in BiH in June 2023 stood at 850 480, of whom 382 792 were women. In comparison to May 2023, the number of people in employment was increased by 0.2% and the number of employed women increased by 0.2%.
Registered unemployment rate for June 2023 was 29.0% and was 0.1 percentage point higher than in May 2023.
