Labour market overview, situation as of 31 March 2024

The number of unemployed people registered with public employment services in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 31 March 2024 was 335 386. As compared to a month earlier, this number was lower by 3 142 persons or 0.93%. Out of the total number of job seekers, 197 208 or 58.80% were women. In comparison to the same period of the year earlier, unemployment in BiH was lower by 17 504 persons or 4.96%.
Unemployment decreased in Federation of BiH by 2,426 persons (0.91%), in Republika Srpska by 517 persons (0.88%) and in the Brčko District of BiH by 199 persons (1.60%).
Job seekers by qualification levels, situation as of 31 March 2024:
98 762 unskilled workers or 29.45%, of whom 59 098 (29.97%) women;
4 904 semi-skilled workers – lower educational background or 1.46%, of whom 2 607 (1.32%) women;
104 988 skilled workers or 31.30%, of whom 51 036 (25.88%) women;
786 highly skilled workers or 0.23%, of whom 167 (0.08%) women;
94 348 with secondary education or 28.13%, of whom 62 160 (31.52%) women;
5 215 with two-year post-secondary education or 1.55%, of whom 3 420 (1.73%) women;
26 383 with university degree or 7.87%, of whom 18 720 (9.49%) women.
A total of 14 185 people were deregistered from public employment services in March, of whom 6 744 were women. Out of this number, there were 8 559 flows into employment, of which 4 272 were women.
At the same time employment terminated for 8 135 people, of whom 4 077 were women. In the same period, employers reported 3 828 vacancies.
According to BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in employment in BiH in February 2024 stood at 852 921, of whom 386 586 were women. In comparison to January 2024, the number of people in employment increased by 0.1% and the number of employed women increased by 0.3%.
Registered unemployment rate for February 2024 was 28.4% and was 0.2percentage point lower than in January 2024.
