Labour market situation as of 30 June 2024



As of 30 June 2024, 325 568 people were registered as unemployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina.  Compared to a month earlier, the number of the unemployed increased by 638 or 0.2%.  Of the total number of job seekers, 192 395 or 59.1% were women.  Compared to the same period a year earlier, the unemployment in BiH decreased by 21 066 or 6.08%. 

Unemployment decreased by 370 (0.66%) in RS and by 51 individuals (0.43%) in BD BiH, and it increased by 1 472 (0.57%) in FBiH.

The structure of job seekers as of 31 June 2024 is as follows:

Unskilled workers: 96 095 or 29.52%, comprising 38 395 (28.96%) men and 57 700 (29.90%) women;

Semi-skilled workers/low educational background: 4 721 or 1.45%, comprising 2 204 (1.66%) men and 2 517 (1.30%) women;

Skilled workers: 101 892 or 31.30%, comprising 52 033 (39.24%) men and 49 859 (25.84%) women;

Highly skilled workers: 740 or 0.23%, comprising 580 (0.44%) men and 160 (0.08%) women;

Secondary school qualifications: 91 720 or 28.17%, comprising 31 030 (23.40%) men and 60 690 (31.45%) women;

Two-year post-secondary education: 4 930 or 1.51%, comprising 1 659 (1.25%) men and 3 271 (1.70%) women;

University degree: 25 470 or 7.82%, comprising 7 272 (5.48%) men and 18 198 (9.43%) women.

Within the total number of registered unemployed individuals, 14,516 were newly added to the register in June 2024, of whom 7,372 were women.  Total number of people who were deregistered was 13 563, of whom 6 942 were women.  Of the total number of people who were deregistered, 7 687 or 56.68% were placed in jobs, of whom 4 154 or 54.04% were women.  

In June 2024, employers reported 3 463 new vacancies to public employment services in BiH, of which 911 were for women.  The registered number of people whose employment was terminated during the reported period amounted to 8 007.  The registered number of women whose employment was terminated during the reporting period was 4 140 or 51.70%.

According to the BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in paid work in BiH amounted to 856 860 in May 2024, of whom 389 467 were women.  Compared to April 2024, the total number of people in work increased by 0.1%, and the number of women in work by 0.2%.

The registered unemployment rate in May 2024 stood at 27.5% and it was lower by 0.3 percentage points against April 2024.
