Labour market situation as of 31 May 2024

As of 31 May 2024, 324 517 people were registered as unemployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Compared to a month earlier, the number of the unemployed fell by 5 427 or 1.64%. Of the total number of job seekers, 191 913 or 59.14% were women. Compared to the same period a year earlier, the unemployment in BiH decreased by 20 435 or 5.92%.
Unemployment fell by 4 331 (1.66%) in FBiH, by 923 (1.61%) in RS and by 173 (1.43%) in the Brčko District of BiH.
The structure of job seekers as of 31 May 2024 is as follows:
Unskilled workers: 96 821 or 29.84%, comprising 38 724 (29.20%) men and 58 097 (30.27%) women;
Semi-skilled workers/low educational background: 4 755 or 1.47%, comprising 2 222 (1.68%) men and 2 533 (1.32%) women;
Skilled workers: 101 401 or 31.25%, comprising 51 677 (38.97%) men and 49 724 (25.91%) women;
Highly skilled workers: 742 or 0.23%, comprising 588 (0.44%) men and 154 (0.08%) women;
Secondary school qualifications: 90 500 or 27.89%, comprising 30 382 (22.91%) men and 60 118 (31.33%) women;
Two-year post-secondary education: 4 923 or 1.52%, comprising 1 681 (1.27%) men and 3 242 (1.62%) women;
University degree: 25 375 or 7.82%, comprising 7 330 (5.53%) men and 18 045 (9.40%) women.
In May, a total of 17 307 people were deregistered, of whom 8 631 were women. Of that number, 8 168 people were placed in jobs, of whom 4 269 were women.
At the same time, the service terminated for 7 620 people, of whom 3 777 were women. In this period, employers reported 3 114 new vacancies.
According to the BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in paid work in BiH amounted to 856 104 in April 2024, of whom 388 655 were women. Compared to March 2024, the total number of people in work increased by 0.4%, and the number of women in work also increased by 0.4%.
The registered unemployment rate in April 2024 stood at 27.8% and it was lower by 0.4 percentage points against March 2024.
