The Labour and Employment Agency of BiH has been implementing the Student Summer Job Program for BiH students interested in working in Germany since 2005. The program is intended for students enrolled at universities and colleges in Bosnia and Herzegovina, exclusive of final year students, who have good German skills and are willing to work in Germany for at least two months.

“The public call for submission of applications under the Student Summer Job Programme 2019 was announced in December last year on our website.  The allocated quota for 2019 was 150 students and 57 students applied for jobs”, said Muamer Bandić, Director of the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH.

“As in years before, the interested students could either apply directly with the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH or at relevant Entity employment service depending on the seat of the higher education establishment they attend. When the application process was completed, the applications were sent to the Central Placement Services (ZAV) of the German Federal Employment Agency and first job offers started coming in May”, explains Director Bandić.

“This year, ZAV approved 23 job offers resulting in 22 students being placed in jobs and one employer withdrew his job offer. For the sake of comparison, in the past five years between 15 and 50 students were placed in jobs under the Programme, and the number of placements primarily depends on the number of submitted job offers and, of course, the number of students who eventually accept offered jobs”, said Bandić.

“Practice has shown that quite a number of students who get an opportunity to work under this programme and make a good impression with employers resume their summer jobs in Germany in subsequent years with same employers under the so-called “name request” procedure.  Therefore, I can say that this is a very good programme which offers opportunities to young people to gain work experience, earn money for further studies, improve their German skills and develop their work habits.  It should also be noted that the maximum duration of work under this programme may not exceed three months so that all young people duly return to BiH”, stressed Director Bandić.
