The number of unemployed people registered with public employment services in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 29 February 2024 was 338 528. As compared to a month earlier, this number was lower by 2 033 persons or 0.60%. Out of the total number of job seekers, 198 497 or 58.64% were women. In comparison to the same period of the year earlier, unemployment in BiH was lower by 16 683 persons or 4.70%.

Unemployment decreased in Federation of BiH by 1,700 persons (0.63%), in Republika Srpska by 125 persons (0.21%) and in the Brčko District of BiH by 208 persons (1.64%).

Job seekers by qualification levels, situation as of 39 February 2024:

99 498 unskilled workers or 29.39%, of whom 59 372 (29.91%) women;

4 942 semi-skilled workers – lower educational background or 1.46%, of whom 2 609 (1.31%) women;

106 100 skilled workers or 31.34%, of whom 51 331 (25.86%) women;

801 highly skilled workers or 0.24%, of whom 170 (0.09%) women;

95 288 with secondary education or 28.15%, of whom 62 652 (31.56%) women;

5 289 with two-year post-secondary education or 1.56%, of whom 3 479 (1.75%) women;

26 610 with university degree or 7.86%, of whom 18 884 (9.51%) women.

A total of 18 120 people were deregistered from public employment services in February, of whom 8 731 were women. Out of this number, there were 7 632 flows into employment, of which 4 032 were women.

At the same time employment terminated for 8 417 people, of whom 4 140 were women.  In the same period, employers reported 3 906 vacancies. 

According to BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in employment in BiH in January 2024 stood at 852 056, of whom 385 402 were women.  In comparison to December 2023, the number of people in employment decreased by 0.1% and the number of employed women decreased by 0.1%.

Registered unemployment rate for January 2024 was 28.6% and was 0.1 percentage point lower than in December 2023.
