Labour market overview, situation as of 30 June 2023

The number of unemployed people registered with public employment services in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 30 June 2023 was 346 634. As compared to a month earlier, this number was higher by 1 682 persons or 0.49%. Out of the total number of job seekers, 202 689 or 58.47% were women. In comparison to the same period of the year earlier, unemployment in BiH was lower by 12 973 persons or 3.61%.
Unemployment decreased in Federation of BiH by 214 persons (0.08%), in Republika Srpska by 214 persons (0.35%) but increase in the Brčko District of BiH by 2.110 persons (22.48%).
Job seekers by qualification levels, situation as of 30 June 2023:
100 281 unskilled workers or 28.93%, of whom 59 726 (29.47%) women;
5 387 semi-skilled workers – lower educational background or 1.55%, of whom 2 787 (1.38%) women;
108 622 skilled workers or 31.34%, of whom 52 352 (25.83%) women;
935 highly skilled workers or 0.27%, of whom 193 (0.10%) women;
97 587 with secondary education or 28.15%, of whom 63 779 (31.47%) women;
5 521 with two-year post-secondary education or 1.59%, of whom 3 674 (1.81%) women;
28 301 with university degree or 8.16%, of whom 20 178 (9.96%) women.
A total of 19 608 people were deregistered from public employment services in June, of whom 8 995 were women. Out of this number, there were 8 136 flows into employment, of which 4 063 were women.
At the same time employment terminated for 9 566 people, of whom 4 927 were women. In the same period, employers reported 2 123 vacancies.
According to BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in employment in BiH in May 2023 stood at 855 640, of whom 386 668 were women. In comparison to April 2023, the number of people in employment was increased by 0.2% and the number of employed women increased by 0.3%.
Registered unemployment rate for May 2023 was 28.7% and was 0.3 percentage point lower than in April 2023.
