The number of persons registered as unemployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina as of 31 January 2019 amounted to 433,438. Compared to the previous month, unemployment decreased by 1.828 persons or 0.42%.

Unemployment decreased in the Federation of BiH by 1,404 persons (0.43%), in Republika Srpska by 67 persons (0.07%) and in Brčko District of BiH by 357 persons (3.82%).

The structure of job seekers as of 31 January 2019 by educational level was as follows:

118,675 unskilled workers (27.38%),

8.133 semi-skilled workers and  workers with primary education (1.88%),

139,235 skilled workers (32.12%),

1,860 highly skilled workers (0.43%), 

122,160 persons with secondary education (28.18%),

6,668 persons with two-year post-secondary education (1.54%) and

36,707 persons with university education (8.47%).

The largest share in registered unemployment continues to be made up of persons with third level of education: skilled workers (32.12%) and workers with secondary education (28.18%).

The total outflow from unemployment registers in January amounted to 18,126 persons, out of which 10,653 persons due to employment.

At the same time, there were 9,940 persons whose employment terminated and 4,701 vacancies notified by employers. 

According to data of the BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of persons in paid employment in BiH amounted to 817,375 in December 2018, out of which 349,183 were women. The total number of persons in paid employment in legal entities was increased by 0.1% from November 2018.

Registered unemployment rate in December 2018 was 34.7% which is a drop of 0.1 percentage point in comparison to November 2018.
