The number of unemployed people registered with public employment services in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 31 January 2023 was 356 072. As compared to a month earlier, this number was higher by 1 749 persons or 0.49%. Out of the total number of job seekers, 206 784 or 58.07% were women. In comparison to the same period of the year earlier, unemployment in BiH was lower by 21 054 persons or 5.58%.

Unemployment increase in Federation of BiH by 448 persons (0.16%), in Republika Srpska by 580 persons (0.9%) and in the Brčko District of BiH by 722 persons (14.82%).

Job seekers by qualification levels, situation as of 31 January 2023:

99 662 unskilled workers or 27.99%, of whom 59 076 (28.57%) women;

5 504 semi-skilled workers – lower educational background or 1.55%, of whom 2 827 (1.37%) women;

112 452 skilled workers or 31.58%, of whom 53 521 (25.88%) women;

1 008 highly skilled workers or 0.28%, of whom 207 (0.10%) women;

101 457 with secondary education or 28.50%, of whom 65 814 (31.83%) women;

5 847 with two-year post-secondary education or 1.64%, of whom 3 850 (1.86%) women;

30 127 with university degree or 8.46%, of whom 21 489 (10.39%) women.

A total of 17 890 people were deregistered from public employment services in January, of whom 8 522  were women. Out of this number, there were 7 716 flows into employment, of which 4 157 were women. 

At the same time employment terminated for 10 803 people, of whom 5 370 were women.  In the same period, employers reported 4 682 vacancies. 

According to BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in employment in BiH in December 2022 stood at 845 247, of whom 379 017 were women.  In comparison to November 2022, the number of people in employment was decreased by 0.2% and the number of employed women decreased by 0.1%.

Registered unemployment rate for December 2022 was 29.5% and was same than in November 2022.
