The number of unemployed people registered with public employment services in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 31 March 2023 was 352 890. As compared to a month earlier, this number was lower by 2 321 persons or 0.65%. Out of the total number of job seekers, 205 179 or 58.14% were women. In comparison to the same period of the year earlier, unemployment in BiH was lower by 19 092 persons or 5.13%.

Unemployment decreased in Federation of BiH by 1 977 persons (0.70%), in Republika Srpska by 1 302 persons (2.03%) but increase in the Brčko District of BiH by 958 persons (13.44%).

Job seekers by qualification levels, situation as of 31 March 2023:

100 308 unskilled workers or 28.42%, of whom 59 552 (29.02%) women;

5 479 semi-skilled workers – lower educational background or 1.55%, of whom 2 815 (1.37%) women;

111 343 skilled workers or 31.55%, of whom 53 226 (25.94%) women;

989 highly skilled workers or 0.28%, of whom 196 (0.10%) women;

99 986 with secondary education or 28.33%, of whom 65 018 (31.69%) women;

5 725 with two-year post-secondary education or 1.62%, of whom 3 763 (1.83%) women;

29 060 with university degree or 8.23%, of whom 20 609 (10.04%) women.

A total of 20 764 people were deregistered from public employment services in March, of whom 9 611 were women. Out of this number, there were 8 477 flows into employment, of which 4 205 were women. 

At the same time employment terminated for 9 519 people, of whom 4 466 were women.  In the same period, employers reported 4 197 vacancies. 

According to BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in employment in BiH in February 2022 stood at 851 881, of whom 383 885 were women.  In comparison to January 2023, the number of people in employment was increased by 0.1% and the number of employed women increased by 0.3%.

Registered unemployment rate for February 2023 was 29.4% and was 0.1 percentage point lower than in January 2023.
