Labour market overview, situation as of 31 December 2023

The number of unemployed people registered with public employment services in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 31 December 2023 was 343 500. As compared to a month earlier, this number was lower by 1 166 persons or 0.34%. Out of the total number of job seekers, 200 672 or 58.42% were women. In comparison to the same period of the year earlier, unemployment in BiH was lower by 10 823 persons or 3.06%.
Unemployment decreased in Federation of BiH by 496 persons (0.18%), in Republika Srpska by 561 persons (0.95%) and in the Brčko District of BiH by 109 persons (0.84%).
Job seekers by qualification levels, situation as of 31 December 2023:
100 103 unskilled workers or 29.14%, of whom 59 648 (29.72%) women;
5 161 semi-skilled workers – lower educational background or 1.50%, of whom 2 700 (1.35%) women;
107 616 skilled workers or 31.33%, of whom 51 820 (25.82%) women;
897 highly skilled workers or 0.26%, of whom 179 (0.09%) women;
96 678 with secondary education or 28.14%, of whom 63 146 (31.47%) women;
5 340 with two-year post-secondary education or 1.55%, of whom 3 507 (1.75%) women;
27 705 with university degree or 8.07%, of whom 19 672 (9.80%) women.
A total of 18 320 people were deregistered from public employment services in December, of whom 8 930 were women. Out of this number, there were 6 981 flows into employment, of which 3 629 were women.
At the same time employment terminated for 8 993 people, of whom 4 300 were women. In the same period, employers reported 5 667 vacancies.
According to BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in employment in BiH in November 2023 stood at 854 680, of whom 385 993 were women. In comparison to October 2023, the number of people in employment increased by 0.2% and the number of employed women increased by 0.2%.
Registered unemployment rate for November 2023 was 28.7% and was 0.1 percentage point lower than in October 2023.
