The number of persons registered as unemployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina as of 31 May 2019 amounted to 406,685. Compared to the previous month, unemployment decreased by 4,141 persons or 1.73%.

Unemployment decreased in the Federation of BiH by 5,462 persons (1.74%), in Republika Srpska by 1,361 persons (1.49%) and in Brčko District of BiH by 318 persons (3.92%).

The structure of job seekers as of 31 May 2019 by educational level was as follows:

114,238 unskilled workers (28.09%),

7,666 semi-skilled workers and  workers with primary education (1.88%),

129,732 skilled workers (31.90%),

1,698 highly skilled workers (0.42%), 

113,588 persons with secondary education (27.93%),

6,178 persons with two-year post-secondary education (1.52%) and

33,585 persons with university education (8.26%).

The largest share in registered unemployment continues to be made up of persons with third level of education: skilled workers (31.90%) and unskilled workers (28.09%).

The total outflow from unemployment registers in May amounted to 20,473 persons, out of which 12,837 persons due to employment.

At the same time, there were 7,423 persons whose employment terminated and 4.697 vacancies notified by employers. 

According to data of the BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of persons in paid employment in BiH amounted to 827,121 in April 2019, out of which 355,996 were women. The total number of persons in paid employment in legal entities was increased by 0.6% from March.

Registered unemployment rate in April 2019 was 33.3% which is a drop of 0.7 percentage point in comparison to March.
