Since 2005 the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH has been implementing the Student Summer Jobs Program for BiH students interested in working in Germany. The program is intended for students enrolled at universities and colleges in Bosnia and Herzegovina, exclusive of final year students, who have good German skills and are willing to work in Germany for at least two months.

“Every year in December, the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH announces a public call for submission of applications for the following year on its website.  The allocated quota for 2019 is 150 students and the deadline for submission of applications was 20th February”, said Muamer Bandić, Director of the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH. “Students can apply either directly with the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH or at relevant Entity employment service depending on the seat of the higher education establishment they attend.  After the application process, the applications are sent to the Central Placement Services (ZAV) of the German Federal Employment Agency and job offers start coming in May when employers make direct contacts with students offering them jobs”, explains Director Bandić.

“This year, the process of application submission was finalized at the end of February resulting in 56 eligible applications.  The list of eligible students was published on the Agency’s website and they were informed of the possibility of being contacted directly by employers”, said Bandić.

“Quite a number of students who get an opportunity to work under this program and make a good impression with employers resume their summer jobs in Germany in subsequent years with same employers under the so-called “name request” procedure.  Therefore, I can say that this is a very good program which offers opportunities to young people to gain work experience, earn money for further studies, improve their German skills and develop their work habits”, stressed Director Bandić and added that about 30 students take summer jobs in Germany each year.
