The Labour and Employment Agency of BiH held a press conference today to present its achievements in 2016. The attending journalists were addressed by Mr. Muamer Bandić, Director of the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH.
Mr. Bandić underlined that year 2016 saw a continuation of downward trend in registered unemployment, an increase in the number of persons placed in jobs by public employment services, as well as an increase in the number of vacancies notified to PES by employers. Thus, a decrease of 5.12% (-27,546) in the number of registered unemployed persons, an increase of 18.67% (+20,795) in the number of registered unemployed persons placed in jobs by PES and an increase of 43.81% in the number of vacancies notified to PES were recorded in comparison to 2015.
Positive developments in the labour market were accompanied by the results of activities of the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH.
In 2016, the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH mediated in employment of a total of 5,857 citizens of BiH under the implementation of the Agreement on Employment concluded with the Republic of Slovenia and the Arrangement on Mediation in Employment of Workers in the FR Germany. Out of this number, 4,778 citizens took employment in the Republic of Slovenia and 1,079 in the FR Germany.
Mr. Bandić particularly highlighted the advantages of taking employment through interstate agreements. All our citizens that have taken employment abroad through mediation of the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH have a legal employment status that entitles them to the same rights as enjoyed by domestic workers, protection at workplace and health and pension insurance. It is also important to mention that these workers get duly de-registered at employment offices in Bosnia and Herzegovina which leaves them time to work more effectively with truly unemployed individuals.
